Creative Process
ABSTRACT DIGITAL PAINTINGS.
I start by drawing digitally with a drawing tablet or sometimes with a mouse. I begin with a blank canvas in Photoshop and set the bottom background color layer. Then I start adding more new layers each of which has drawn shapes or strokes which then may be altered by use of multiple options and repetition of shapes and colors. Sometimes I create as many as a dozen layers before the image is complete. sometimes I also come back to the image weeks later and work on them some more introducing more special effects. Often I work so fast that I do not even remember the sequence and find I cannot even repeat the look of the image.
PIXEL PAINTINGS.
For the pixel paintings I start from a photographic image of a contemporary event. This grounds me in current time and places. Once selected I zoom in to the pixel level of the image, select and repeat certain areas, change colors and scale, and add other changes that totally alter the appearance and leaves the original image unrecognizable. My intention is to organize the work abstractly so that the shapes, colors and textures convey the meanings and emotions.
THESE ARE ALL UNIQUE SINGLE ORIGINAL WORK, ARRIVED AT BY DRAWING IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP USING THE PAINT TOOLS. THEN THEY ARE PRINTED OUT AS AN ARCHIVAL GICLEE PRINT EITHER ON PAPER OR ON CANVAS AND STRETCHED LIKE AN OIL PAINTING.
